@matthijs @ahatchettjob if you’re interested in that community style of social media, there are a couple of fediverse options, piefed and lemmy. Both have a ux that is heavily inspired by Reddit, and you can interact with them from mastodon by @‘ing the community’s account (like @ + community + @ + instance).

I’m excited about this #forkiverse experiment to take back control of our social feeds. -
WELCOME TO THE FORKIVERSE EVERYONE!@holger @pj I’d recommend finding some hashtags for things you’re interested in and following those. For instance, I follow hashtags for sports I like, as well as my city and neighborhood. From there, it’s easier to expand out to following individual accounts you see posting regularly. And it’s likely worth checking out @FediTips

I've been on mastodon a few days and I like it because every time I log on I see something that feels like it has lore that I do not understand even a little bit.@deelion I’ve been here for quite some time, and I can assure you that feeling never quite goes away. It’s a fun place with a lot of little pockets of subcultures I’d never had much exposure to before. Make sure to follow a bunch of hashtags and boost everything you find even remotely interesting — there’s not an algorithm to help people discover content, so those two steps are super helpful.
