@tinker From a hardware perspective, it’s interesting to think about the dynamic between centralized and distributed architectures that has animated the history of IT (e.g. mainframe vs PC/workstation). The recent run-up in cost for the individual consumer caused by massive centralized hardware demand (“datacenters”) could be seen as an attempt to push really thin clients to the people, forcing reliance on centralized processing resources for all but the most basic functionality in the future.
