    @thomasfuchs great, now we can run the life-critical experiment where we take the "most stressful job in the world" and give it to people who aren't going to take it too seriously

    (presumably because the ones we fired were being paid too much)

  • Wow - Electrity generation used 55% of the water use and over 4 times as much as public use and agriculture combined!

    @PaulWermer don't know enough about the current state of stirling engines to say it's a good idea but i'm pretty sure they were considered for solar thermal technology at some point, and notably, stirling engines don't use water

    @PapyrusBrigade looks like they haven't been rich *quite* long enough to figure out absentee parenting with a paid nanny but it sounds like they're heading in that direction

    i only wonder if it would make the kids better or worse

    @JulianOliver (then, consider that they're run as a grift, so there's gas turbines everywhere causing far, far more damage than potentially ending the life of a worm)

    @JulianOliver an earthworm displaced by the datacenter has more moral weight than the language model built atop its ruined home

    @JulianOliver yeah

    but lest anyone think ignoring the issue itself is callous i'm also quite willing to say the answer to the question they asked is also "no"

    what these people have built amounts to a very large decision tree (using convolution and weights instead of comparisons, but a decision tree) which is extremely difficult to modify with any new information, and impossible by any of its own presumed volition

    as it perceives only word fragments as input, and derives the same as output
