I'm really bearish on the practicality of data centres in space but the Google paper answers something that I've been wondering for data pre-processing on Earth Observation satellites using TPUs.
How radiation sensitive is HBM compared to the more commonly used error-corrected DRAM?
They put a Trillium TPU under a 67MeV proton beam to simulate ∼150rad(Si)/year exposure and found a very low failure probability, on the order of 1 per 10 million inferences.
