@plzupgrademe I have lots to say about Southern (US) Gothic! Flannery O’Connor is one of my favourite writers. But please educate me on what Southern Ontario Gothic is. I’d love to learn! As for Munro, I used to love her short stories but I’ve sadly let the controversy with her daughter colour my judgment of her work. It’s a triggering situation.

Hi!@sjpurrs third time seems to be the charm!
-
Hi!@alex hi! Thanks for the hashtag tip. I was feeling pretty burnt out so I set myself the challenge to read a book from every country. The rule is that the author has to be born there. I just look up books from the country I want to read from and choose what sounds good to me. I also read recommendations sent to me by others. I’m tracking it on Instagram so far. I can send a link if you’re interested to see what I’ve done!

Hi!@FediThing thank you!

Hi! -
Hi!@vollink what I find depressing about trying to talk about books online is how fewer and fewer people care about it with each passing year. Reading culture is dismal these days.
-
Hi!@dancingtreefrog oh yes we do!!

Hi!@UberZeitgeist thanks for the filter idea. Excellent advice. I’ve followed you and looking forward to your haikus!
-
Hi!@UberZeitgeist A haiku writer with a BA in English?? Sounds like my kinda people. There's A LOT of tech stuff that has shown up on my feed. Is there a good way to reduce it?
-
Hi!@nitinkhanna I'll be posting book recs for sure!
-
Hi!@NickSchwanck @rustyferris That's the spirit! What a legend.
-
Hi!@jackgangi it’s such a fun thing to do! It’s like the ultimate status update.

Hi!@trezzer this just confirmed that my instinct to use paper in my classroom is the right one! I feel it’s especially important for English teachers more than others to offer students this dissenting voice. My school, like most others, is jumping on the AI bandwagon with gusto. I joined the AI committee just to show up at the meetings to be like Cassandra and warn them of the dangers.
-
Hi!@trezzer it’s both. I’m doing almost all assessments on paper because of AI related academic integrity issues but I also see the screens as such distractions for my students that I aim to make my class the one where they will actually be present.
-
Hi!@anne_twain thank you for the tips!
-
Hi!@penpencilbrush nice rec! Thanks! I’ll check out the video archive!
-
Hi!@ericmpaq yes! Especially when they share historical events. Writing styles are quite distinct though.

Hi!@lianna 🤯 this discog site is blowing my mind!! I wish there was something like it for books too but sadly it doesn’t exist.
