"... according to Adorno, there is a causal relationship between alogical argumentation and relief-provided that the argumentation is carried out at the expense of outsiders. ...the contradictions in [Martin Walser's Nobel speech disparaging Holocaust commemoration] changes little in its real significance... It retains its factualness because it relieves. That is its purpose; that is its cultural meaning."
