@xgranade@wandering.shop I feel that. Like, when the AI craze started, I wanted northing to do with it from the get go. Only recently I did more digging and some experimentation because I felt I had to better understand what I was criticising. I'm by far an expert but I have yet to find a single model that was solely trained on data that the creators had permission to use (an opt-out is not permission). Hell, models like those we have today could probably not even exist if we made that a requirement (please tell me if you do know a model like that, though). And then there's the energy-requirements, bad quality in slop code and other AI "works", biases in the models, models being used to actively promote fascism, yada yada yada...

I mean, while overhyped, the technology is somewhat interesting. But is it worth it? No, I don't think so.
