@QasimRashid The weather in NYC also sucked a load for about half of the quarter. Which reminds me of when I was living in Houston 30+ years ago, and the city recorded no felonies in a 24-hour period and it was big news, because there was a massive cold snap. So, you know, people who might commit crimes also stay home when the weather is bad.

BREAKING: Crime reports are out for Q1 2026 New York City. -
Them: if you set aside all the ethical concerns…@gloriouscow @petrillic This is the competition for slots in the grocery store parking lot.

Marco Rubio on Monday: “Imagine an Iran that, instead of spending their wealth, billions of dollars, supporting terrorists or weapons, had spent that money helping the people of Iran.”@augieray "The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some 50 miles of concrete highway. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people." — Dwight D. Eisenhower, Republican

Washington Post notifies subscribers their rates are set to increase, explaining the price rise“was set by an algorithm using your personal data.”@newsguyusa People responding to this need to step back with their snark and ask, "What data does WaPo have about their readers and how did they obtain it?" Is it basic stuff, like "let's charge subscribers in Bethesda more because they can afford it" or have they gone full evil with "we matched up your WaPo and Amazon accounts, and, hoo boy, we're gonna charge you up the whazoo"?

Re-reading "Neuromancer" and I'm struck how the protagonist wanting to get out of debt by selling 3MB of RAM went from being laughably dated to seeming actually plausible within recent months@goatrodeo @BoredomFestival "The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel" So confusing in 2026. What, it's completely black? Or in 2030, it's showing non-stop ads?

They claimed crime would skyrocket if @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social was elected mayor.@QasimRashid Dude, I live in NYC and I voted for Mamdani. It's been just a bit more than two months since he took office, and frankly the weather in the city has sucked about 2/3 of that time. Y'know, like so bad, even criminals stayed home because it sucked going outside, for weeks on end.
I think Mamdani is going to be a great mayor, but maybe wait another few months until when the city has been 'normal' for a while before these breathless reports?
