@oliverboehme @blondy Historically, red is the colour of revolution (since at least the French revolution), and, via that route, of communism/socialism. Blue has a (much weaker) association with Monarchy and conservatism. The US red/blue states more or less emerged randomly during the Bush v. Gore TV reporting in 2000.
