Which reminds me, my first period began on a school trip to the Lake District. The public lavatory had… you’ve guessed it… Izal. So luxuriously absorbent. NOT. Properly traumatised me!

When I was little I lived with my Nana who used to purchase Izal, but my Uncle lived next door and my Aunt bought Andrex. I don’t know how many times she reprimanded me for using their lavatory, which was inside the house. Nana’s was across the yard and had no electric light. I was terrified in winter - of the dark and spiders!
