This is not an outlier, or right/left positioning. The USA have lost trust across the entire German population on an unprecedented scale. This will likely have a long-term and possible even immediate effect on the decision-making processes within German politics.

The poll was conducted between January 16 and 19, 2026, with 1009 participants involved, margin of error ±3%.

Members of opposition parties:

Green: 10% partner / 83% adversary
Left: 7% partner / 82% adversary

Only the right-wing AfD diverges a bit, but even among them the US are clearly considered hostile by 51%, with only 31% in favor of Trump's USA.

A poll in Germany conducted by Forsa revealed that only 18% of Germans consider the USA under Trump a partner, while 71% consider them an adversary.

The results are pretty homogenous and diverge only marginally across all parties, as well as in West Germany (18% partner / 71% adversary) and East Germany (15% partner / 75% adversary).

Members of the government parties:

CDU/CSU (Union): 17% partner / 76% adversary
SPD: 13% partner / 77% adversary
