Accompanied my 13yo daughter N for her ISTD ballet exam today. Nervous wait in the prep room. N manages to contain her anxiety; I can see the signs of inner screaming but she's cool outside. Proud of her.
She and her ballet friend do some last minute practice checks. I am meant to prompt them by reading out the French terms for the various steps and movements, "pas de chat", "saute", "grand jetee", etc. I do so with verve. N tells me, matter of fact, "do it without the French accent, dad".
