I too have a long back, which was previously prone to injury, as well as finger, hand, arm, shoulder problems due to typing professionally.
I can't say if the same miracle that happened to me and eskealler will happen for you, svedigtype, but I wish you the best for your recovery, however that happens.
The lesson to remember: our injuries are caused by UNDER use, not OVER use.
