@davidrevoy This is one of the things about AI generated art that many people don't think about... it's that *psychologically* speaking, regardless of whether we use AI or not, we're all now in a state of constantly questioning whether something is authentic or not.
This is an incredibly erosive precedent to be set for human culture. We live in truly dangerous times.

When someone uses em dashes with regular ASCII spaces, and ASCII single and double quotes instead of typographic apostrophes and quotation marks, then they’re very suspect.
I am one of those who care a bit about typography.
@mirabilos @davidrevoy I've got to go meet up with some out-of-town friends and haven't got time for this. I'm sorry you think I'm suspect and hypocritical. But @sinewave, thank you for pointing out ways is which it can be easier to do em dashes than all the different variations on curly quotes (single and double, left and right).

Oh damn! I owe you a sincere apology.
I'm used to avoid AI slop, and my reaction to the image 1 was “AI gen”. I even closed the image, and then saw the title “Authenticity Problem,” it made me doubt myself. I reopened the image, read the comic, and then watched the timelapse, which confirmed that it was indeed your work and not AI.
And now I can’t even imagine what it must be like for you. Hang in there, and great work despite everything!
And again, sorry! Apparently, I'm biased

On the contrary. Thanks to you! It made me wonder how many images I’ve quickly closed just because they were “AI,” when they actually weren’t...
And on top of that, it seems you’re a FOSS advocate and a Krita user (and maybe Blender, if I understand correctly).
So clearly, I would have missed out on an opportunity, especially since I’m trying again to get into Krita, among other foss.
Et aparemment vous êtes français en plus. Haha.

Even people that do know how they work seem vulnerable to LLM psychosis over long enough exposure.
And for programming in particular, the ways in which they fail are so unintuitive that they end-up requiring far more (tedious, morale-destroying) effort in review than just writing it from scratch (and then having that reviewed).
The ethics & environmental costs are mentioned in there though. But I do need to highlight, ethical problems abound.

Exactly. It's why civilized societies have "innocent until proven guilty", because we've decided that it's a lesser evil to let some criminals go unpunished than to punish innocent people.And its misdirected energy anyway. Instead of fighting each other, we should be coming together and directing our combined efforts towards the real source of the problem, the companies and governments that are proliferating and pushing this technology so much. That's where the real harm is coming from, and where it needs to be stopped. But that's not going to happen until enough of us can get together on this. Fighting each other detracts from that.
There's damn good reason to be angry, let's direct that energy to where it will do the most good.

Literally, they train AI on *your* art and then they have the nerve to claim your art is not authentic.
Of course, AI companies would never want to add source fingerprints to their data because that would prove they're infringing on other people's copyrights.

@tanavit Oh, bless! Yeah, there's a thing about AI output having a yellowish tinge, to the point that people point to it as a "tell" for AI output. There's even a joke about it being "piss-tinged" or sommat.
I think this is becoming less of a thing, or else I'm just not seeing it as much (but truth be told I don't lurk in places where AI is around a lot, like Meta/Twitter). But old memes die hard.
ETA: Fun fact, this is why Avian Intelligence's text boxes are yellowish!
