Thanks for re-posting these tips!I think some folks don't realize they can add alt text descriptions to videos and GIFs. I see some people who always add alt text for static images but not for videos/GIFs.
(Oops, I forgot to include audio clips as another type of media that can be described)
Even if it's a very short description a description of the video or GIF is always helpful!

Links to other sites can't have alt texts added, but if you're posting an image/video/audio yourself you can usually click "Alt" to add the text.

@FediTips I ran a survey here and 59% said they don’t boost images that lack alt text.

Are you attaching the GIF, or are you linking to a GIF from another site?
Links to other sites can't have alt texts added, but if you're posting an image/video/audio yourself you can usually click "Alt" to add the text.

It's a link as I have yet to find another way of adding GIFs.I don't know what it looks like on any of the apps but on the web interface the way to add a GIF is the same button as adding a static image.
I've added a GIF to this post, and also added alt text, for an example.
I hope you are able to figure out how to add alt text for GIFs via whatever app/interface you use.

How are you adding the gif? I tend to go to a GIF website, find the GIF I want & then Copy Link as nothing else works (copy image just copies still image from the GIF). -

If you can get hold of a GIF file, you can upload that file the same way you upload an image.
