    @cwebber the funniest parts is that the author of the blog believes that zuckerberg was just holding the llms wrong (“AI-assisted programming has developed in the last six months — contrary to Zuckerberg’s claim that it ‘hasn’t really accelerated’ — but indeed not in the way Meta expected, because Meta’s vibes-based management this time was just plain wrong. AI never had the potential to replace so many workers at an instant.”)

    @mawhrin @cwebber Yeah, it seems way more sympathetic to Zuck than he deserves. He's rich because FB is a river of ad money. He's bought up any competitor that might divert the river of ad money. The real reason no one wants to use the Metaverse is that he created it for the river of ad money, and didn't think about any actual human users. He's unable to create anything of actual value to anybody.

          @cwebber

          The reality is M Zuckerberg never got through his undergrad before being encourage [by whom?] to drop out and be a rich CEO instead of getting the training and experience to be a successful CEO.

          Any lottery winner can be a rich CEO. It takes rather more to be a successful one.

            @cwebber “The most pertinent example of the former is the ill-fated metaverse, which was developed solely on the (unbelievable) whim that the pandemic would last forever — or at least far longer than it actually did — and people would become accustomed to replacing in-person interaction with virtual reality””…”

            It was nuts to think people would prefer to put on an expensive headset to have cartoon versions of their heads & torsos interact with other cartoons instead of just opening Zoom.

              @CStamp @cwebber the worst in that statement is that Meta was also very strong at dismissing the pandemic and forcing their own workers to return to the office "because it foster collaboration".

                      @cwebber Lol. Here's the very real HR problem with Zuckerberg's Trump Jr stylings as a chaotic leader: Zuck permanently poisoned the hiring/rehiring pool. You now have an slightly higher than equal chance former, current, and new employees have been incentivized to booby-trap, time-bomb, sabotage, vendetta the engineering because Meta has proven it has no loyalty to its staff, and deserve none in return.

                      The most dangerous employee to an organization is the "nicest" one who knows the org CANNOT be trusted -- you'll never see the damage coming. It's why HR typically has security wipe your access, and watch you get your stuff, and escort you out when terminated. HR knows the threat can happen.

                      These white boy geniuses are too smug to realize the risk they chaotically created, and can't anticipate what's going to hit their business empires as they are derailed from inside their own houses. They equate wealth with intelligence and leadership - it's not. FAFO.

                        And is often cited as the exemplar of arriving late to the party and paying top dollar for mediocre acquisitions.

                        Should 'adequate' leadership be the head of a top-10 tech firm? I don't think so, but then I am not directly invested in it. (I try to avoid tech; takes more brains than I have.)

                              @cwebber @EshuMarneedi I'm reading "Careless people" by a former Facebook Exec, and Zuck seems both not to be very smart, but also has a big "I'm the main character and you don't really matter" syndrome
