@mcspocky Who could have envisaged that Iran would be able to destroy a base ~250km across the Persian Gulf? They only have hypersonic missiles with 2000km range, barely capable! Next you'll expect them to have planned for the Strait being closed when that's what everyone had expected to happen for decades.

Trump figured he'd distract the public by looking like a political idiot rather than just saying, yeah, the Navy is too busy trying to feed itself and thus look like a military idiot.

Weirdly, though, it didn't get a lot of attention in the US domestic press. You'd think that with so many news reporters working for Trump that the public would know all there is to know about how the war proceeds. Instead, it's like the US public is as misinformed as the Japanese or German public in world war 2. Shit, maybe that's why the US government is afraid of 'antifa'.
