    @catsalad @dpnash @benteg

whilst I've not discussed technical stuff with a cat (I don't even have one of my own, but a neighbours ginger tom regularly visits), we sit and meow together both indoors and out in the street, in full view of the neighbours, which makes far more sense than any AI 😸

    Simian:

“So we’re staring down the oiligarchs financing the far right everywhere, and we all know how much compassion fascism has for an old man whose first programs were SNOBOL on punch cards. And the tech wing of this looming darkness is about to determine whether the worldwide market for labour contracts by 35-75%, and whether that implodes their revenues giving us a Dead Economy, and…”

@catsalad An LMM (Large Meowing Model) would halucinate by tracking invisible things, complaining that a 90%-full bowl is empty or bite you in the middle of a belly rub. Wait a minute ...

@benteg @catsalad "Rubber duck" sessions with a cat are much better than with any flavor of "AI".

Me: "Argh. I'm having trouble frobulizing the mibbler object in this Python module. It keeps running out of glunks before the frobulizer is done."
            Cat: meow
Me: "So...what do you think about bobulizing it first? That might clear some of the glunks out of the skrebble cache. A full cache can slow things down a lot."
            Cat: meow
Me (stops to pet cat, which helps clear my brain a bit)
            Cat: meow
Me: "Thinking about it some more ... yeah, I'll want to bobulize things first. The latest release of AWS Frogspawn Ciabatti Cloud definitely uses glunks less efficiently than AWS Blobcat TreeTrunk did."
            Cat: meow
Me: "Now that I've cleared up the slow step, I should be able to frobulize the mibbler now. Thanks!"
            Cat: meow
            Me: "Love you too."

@mrgrumpymonkey @benteg @catsalad Spending all day trying to get AWS Ridiculously Named Cloud Thing to do what you need it to do is enough to get anyone speaking gibberish.

@TheGreatLlama @mrgrumpymonkey @benteg @catsalad Sadly, no, not real. It is, however, exactly where my brain goes after I’ve spent too much time dealing with the real AWS services.

Not being in tech, that's practically how it all sounds to me anyway. Then again, I guess my industry has its own terminology, but it's mostly extremely impolite.

The difference between a rubber duck and an LLM is that a rubber duck knows to shut up when it can’t say anything useful.
