One of my personal favorites - a trillium! These babies take two years of freeze-thaw cycles to sprout, and can take 7-10 years to flower for the first time! All that to say - don’t pick these when you see them!

I love trilliums. They have been the official flower of my province (Ontario, Canada) since 1937.

@RavynWitch I love Trilliums. Not as many out here in BC, when compared to our former cottage in Ontario. Tried to grow one here in BC once but it didn't take.

And my favourite -- of our 5 dogs over the years -- was named Trillium.

When I see a Trillium now, it brings back many wonderful memories. ~sigh~

You best be respectin' Ontario's provincial flower like Belle says, folks. Even transplanted prairie boys like me get defensive.

@KimberlyN @RavynWitch in Ontario (our provincial flower), they are protected - it's illegal to pick them! (Now I know why).

But I think it's legal to dig them up to transplant to your property 👍.

I have both wild and an ugly green hybrid. I guess they weren't meant to come together. 😉

The law is that it's legal to transplant them in small quantities, meaning nurseries and exporters can't strip large number of plants from the wild to sell in Canada or export to other countries.
