We followed some hashtags hoping they would give us a more organized feed. However, we still rarely see posts about #sustainability #farming #climatechange the #environment or #agriculture
Why is that? Are we missing something, or is there a better way to connect with people who share our interests and values on the #Fediverse if their posts are not appearing in our feed?
We would appreciate any advice from more experienced #Fediverse users.
@sustainable_schools @Pinchy63 you can set up a list, and add folks you find posting on topics you like. Then, when they omit hashtags, or use a new one, you still see them!

@sustainable_schools just in time for a new post (already shared a couple of hours ago in german, about to share the english link). Now I have some additional matching hashtags - post incoming...
In general it's more the nutrition direction, but that overlaps with agriculture and environment - today's article particularly with sustainability.
Well, upfront: Here's the link that soon gets its own post

@sustainable_schools sometimes hashtags ebb and flow. Concepts like environmental sustainability are quite normal, so aren't necessarily tagged. You may have to branch out what tags you're following.
It's a good idea to look at what other tags are in use on the posts you do see and appreciate, and follow some of them as well. For example some "sustainability" posts are also tagged "solarpunk" or they may have more specific tags like "activetransport".
Looking through the timelines of people who post and boost things you're interested in is another good way to find the sort of the you want.@jetlagjen @sustainable_schools I'd agree, something like sustainability or agriculture is far too broad a topic so I doubt many people would bother tagging it. Maybe be a bit more specific with which particular aspect you're searching for?

@sustainable_schools regarding agriculture, are you interested in articles / information in general, or are you interested in people doing things? I think there are a few farmers who post about how they are doing things. You could follow them directly (I'm happy to recommend).
For sustainability, I've seen a lot of posts in # SolarPunkSunday.
For people interested in climate change, you can follow # ClimateDiary. -
@jetlagjen Indeed. And often hashtags are not intuitive. e.g. we have #solarpunkSunday for the practical side, organised by @DoomsdaysCW
By subscribing to it you can discover many interested people, not only organisations or NGOs.Or try #ClimateDiary where people write about their every-day-life's experiences with the #climatecrisis (This post is quiet public for not spamming the hashtags)
@NatureMC I just recommended those same hashtags

To be honest, we are interested in both articles and people, but especially in people who are actively doing the work. We would love to learn from their posts, see how they approach different challenges, and sometimes ask questions through the comment sections.
We really appreciate your willingness to recommend some accounts and look forward to following them. Thank you.

@afewbugs Thank you, your point is understandable. However, even for those broad topics, we rarely see related posts in our feed. Could this be because of our instance, or are we missing something?
Also, are there any instances that are particularly popular among farmers and sustainability communities?
-
@pgiulan Thank you for the recommendation, hopefully boosting this thread will help others with the same question!

@sustainable_schools @Pinchy63 by the way: you only see hashtagged posts that your instance knows about. Try setting up an account on an instance that's enviro-focused, or mastodon.social which is huge (but be aware - moderation on mastodon.social is reportedly less stringent than on smaller instances).

@sustainable_schools @jetlagjen that is odd, I guess it's who I've chosen to follow but I'd say at least half of what I see is in aome way sustainability related

@deborahh Thank you for the explanation. That makes much more sense now. We never knew that there are specific instances focused on environmental topics and sustainability communities.
We will look into some environment-focused instances and see if they are a better fit for us. We appreciate your advice!

I just added you to my Regenerative Agriculture list. I'll highlight those accounts soon, @sustainable_schools .
@DoomsdaysCW Thank you so much for the help, we appreciate!

@afewbugs Yes, maybe you are right friend, good enough people are still showing the intrest in helping us find the best solutions.

@sustainable_schools @Pinchy63 I've asked feditips if there is a finder for instances-by-topic - will report back if we find one.

@sustainable_schools
Try some of these, too:
#permaculture
#agroecology
#foodforestOnce you find some accounts sharing toots with information you're interested in, scroll through their posts and boosts to seen what hashtags they're using.
@neverbeaten Thank you for sharing these helpful hashtags; we really appreciate it. While they may not fully solve what we are looking for, we are grateful for everyone who is taking the time to help us.
Your support and advice are meaningful to us. We have already followed the hashtags that we were not following before, and we hope they will help us discover more relevant people and content.

@sustainable_schools Fandom stuff is also, unfortunately, a fediverse thing
