@Frieke72 The eye on the official mobile app just hides a particular post, yeah.The thing about hiding or revealing a whole thread is only if you're using the web interface.

@5225225 Group chats in DMs are quite common so there might be a danger of frequent false positives causing people to ignore the warning completely or want it switched off.I guess there could be a warning if an account is added after the chat has already started, but I don't know how easy it is to code?

@hms88 Weird... sounds like some kind of localisation problem on that particular app in that case.Whatever it is called (mentions, specific, private mentions, mentions only, direct etc) it works the same way.

ipsquiggle@sunny.garden NodeBB just tracks it internally and notifies you if there have been additional replies. It’s not something the ActivityPub spec talks about but it’s something that would be quite helpful.

And now thanks to @chaosexanima I can show you how the retractation works:- you get a notification when someone quotes you- on their post, you have a new menu to remove their quote of your post- you confirm, and your quote is removed and shown as having been retracted- the quote is no longer displayed on the original post

@ls Yup, the quoted post disappears but it doesn't affect the other person's comment on the quoted post.

If you are thinking about follower numbers, that makes it harder to engage with people in an authentic way.This is very much a grassroots social network mainly run by volunteers, so "clout chasing" isn't really a thing here. It's more like chatting to your neighbours, people don't think about each other's follower numbers.
