And now thanks to @chaosexanima I can show you how the retractation works:- you get a notification when someone quotes you- on their post, you have a new menu to remove their quote of your post- you confirm, and your quote is removed and shown as having been retracted- the quote is no longer displayed on the original post

@ls Yup, the quoted post disappears but it doesn't affect the other person's comment on the quoted post.

If you are thinking about follower numbers, that makes it harder to engage with people in an authentic way.This is very much a grassroots social network mainly run by volunteers, so "clout chasing" isn't really a thing here. It's more like chatting to your neighbours, people don't think about each other's follower numbers.

@teledyn I'm not sure, there is a similar randomness to what iPhone lets you share too.But in almost all cases the sharing through the phone's own sharing system just amounts to copy-pasting the direct link to the Mastodon post into a post on another app.So, you can bypass the phone's own share option by copying the link directly within Mastodon by pressing ⋯, and then manually posting it in another app on your phone.

@selea Not necessarily? AFAIK your posts will be full text searchable on other instances if you activate this, even if your own instance doesn't have elasticsearch.

@kuroneko There is already a feature which hides boosts you have seen before. However, it is hard coded to allow a boost to be visible again after 40 other posts have passed through your Home timeline.
