@johnzajac In my case it's precisely because I'm a liberal that I hate AI. It makes it impossible for ordinary people to inform themselves or have meaningful discussions with others, and those are core to liberal politics. Also labour exploitation and environmental destruction are hardly aligned to liberal values, nor is using massive computing power to circumvent the rule of law and undermine democracy. If you're a revolutionary, fine, but your enemy is not liberals, it's the far right
fwiw i don't read this as "liberals are the enemy" but rather "this is a common liberal fallacy which is what can make liberals such a problematic and unreliable ally"

Liberals aren't liberal anymore. They never were. And this is why I can't deal with their shit.
They talk about their high minded ideals, but they will choose capital over their principles every time. They will choose their own class interests over the material needs of the population as a whole
@burnoutqueen @individeweal @johnzajac i dont think liberals arent liberals. Capitalism adopted liberal speech to justify itself, and it camuflates the real liberal speech. Bc they use the same words & the same sentences that we used for a real context. Now they add it to every speech to "seem liberal" because the old autoritarism speech now is so easy to spot. Capitalism needs new ways to seem reliable and be more attractive and try to get disguised as something with liberal values.

I noticed that many articles are shifting from trying to defend "AI" (it's indefensible, I think they've realized?) to doubling down on the disinformation that what is called "AI" (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude) is the same as ML applications that have become truly revolutionary over the last ten years, AND this technology is *inevitable*, so we "need to shift from being anti-AI to being midwives and partners to the coming "AI" future" so we can shape it.

His concern about the unethical, immoral, and destructive externalities of yes, even "local AI models"? His concern about the deliberate, strategic conflation of ML applications like medicine and materials development? Protein folding? Physics modeling?
