    Yikes.

    Although NASA has not publicly discussed the gravity of its concerns about the issue, the PrK module could break apart without much advance warning. Under pressure, the module could unzip and fail completely … “NASA has expressed concerns about the structural integrity of the PrK and the possibility of a catastrophic failure.”

    Zvezda (and PrK) were built in the mid-80s, earmarked to be part of Mir-2. 50 year old space station modules with metal fatigue!

      I'm just thinking about how much of this would accumulate in the multi-thousand-year journeys that fill so much SF.
