@staff @haubles Correction: it’s apparently not my account, just the account of a Palestinian facing genocide in Gaza that’s hidden.
I also just had a look and over 50 Gaza Verified accounts are suspended on mastodon.social.
I know some accounts keep engaging in behaviour like mass tagging, sending unsolicited private messages, etc., but also think about it: over 50 verified Palestinians facing genocide in Gaza were suspended from one of the last online refuges where they can be heard and helped and for what… etiquette.
I mean we seriously need to (a) decentralise (b) maybe have slightly more relaxed moderation criteria for people facing famine and genocide versus Jack in his mother’s basement.
Thoughts?

@lashman Thank you, posted a correction. Couldn’t tell as I’m linguistically challenged

Too right Aral. If I ask myself why I object to the direct approaches and mass posting I might just find it’s because it forces me to face trauma that makes me (very) uncomfortable.
That sounds very much like a me problem.
And what would we do in the same place? I’ll manage my discomfort…

@aral If people can't forgive some humans who literally experience extinction every day, and thus cry for help, then people can mute those genocide victims if their pleas for help disturb people's privileged life too much.
Hiding genocide victims instance-wide, even for those Westerners who never were mentioned, which prevents them from seeing the occasional post you highlight by quoting it, goes too far in my opinion. Just because some people without empathy reported genocide victims rather than muting them.
Lately I've been reading about GoToSocial. It's like Mastodon, but written in Go rather than Ruby, and much more resource-efficient. It's much better suited for your idea of single-user instances than Mastodon.
If everybody had their own instance, then folks wouldn't depend on the whims of their instance moderators.

@davidculley then they might easily get defederated. And it would be more difficult to be visible. @aral
