"Greens call for temporary ban on new data centres"
Very sensible. Their carbon footprint is cause enough for concern, but when so much of the country is already under hosepipe bans, the idea of building stuff with that kind of water consumption is bonkers.

@statsguy Imagine you're watching your garden shrivel up and blow away for lack of water, but down the road some data centre is slurping up water probably at some bargain rate from the same local water company that keeps raising your bills. It's the kind of thing that makes a person snap and run amok. A last straw. Then everyone says 'guy went crazy because his roses died. What a loon!'

@beecycling Pretty much.
Some of my garden is actually OK, but only because I've been out filling up a watering can about a dozen times EVERY FUCKING EVENING

@statsguy "The party said data centres should be built on brownfield sites, near to renewable energy sources to allow them to use renewables when possible."
Oh, so radical!

@statsguy no normal human being needs nor wants ANY data centres anywhere 🤬

@xChaos @statsguy That should be a given anyway. In my opinion, if they were allowed to build it, the data centre itself should not be attached to the grid (I'd allow their on-site offices to be on the grid for backup power.) They should generate all of their own power and it can only be renewables. If they can't generate enough, then tough luck.
