@bloodravenlib @jawnsy Years ago I was opening a bottle of "birch juice" (birch sap, collecting it in spring is extremely popular in Latvia) that had sat there for a while.
The cap of the bottle hit my palm so hard it got bruised. I was partially leaning over it, without the palm in the way the cap might have hit my head. So it's not that people intentionally point containers at their faces, but in some situations leaning over (think leaning down during a hike etc) can aim straight at the face.

@bloodravenlib What makes these models worse than other bottles without a pressure release valve? Is it that the caps have short threads, so they are free to move out very soon when unscrewing?

I'm thinking this is probably a potential issue on other brands and models too, so I'd like to be aware of the root cause.

I'd say your explanation is probably correct. On my thermos, the seal let's go one and a half turn before the thread ends.

Less when there is a vacuum inside, because of the direction it seals, so if anything, high pressure would release even earlier.
