@georgetakei Did I missed something? When did #trump critizied #Putin of war crimes?
@daft_wully @georgetakei Yeah. You missed stuff. I can't readily find a source for it since so much has happened and it's been a while, but Trump has definitely accused Putin of war crimes. I did a search and the assist agrees with me, but it's just full of the latest news with Trump being accused of war crimes. I doubt I can get through that noise to find it.
He especially did a lot of it during campaigning when he was pretending to be tough and could bring peace to Ukraine in like 10 min.

I’m *embarrassed* when a piece of spinach gets stuck in my teeth and no one tells me.
I’m *disgusted, horrified and livid* that my government is committing war crimes.
Words matter.
@ScruffyJunco @DavidM_yeg @georgetakei
"Words matter."
Yes. But they're also quite uselessly incapable of expressing some shit. How fucking pissed and sad and yes embarrassed I am would be some of that shit.

It's more than an embarrassment. It's a reason to put him on trial at The Hague.
Thank you very much for helping to socialize the moniker "Department of War Crimes".
From this point on I will never refer to Hegseth's DOD using any other name. -

FFS. Iran is surrounded on three sides by big fuck-off mountains, and on the other side by water.
The Persians almost never got invaded, bcs above.
It's closer from Poland to Iran than from the top of Iran to the bottom of Iran.
And the orange shit-gibbon has NO idea what that means. He is an utter *loser* and needs to be told, every 5 minutes, on live TV, that he's a loser.
Then he'll threaten to nuke them, and (hopefully) all the intelligent people in the room/world will go 'No. You do that, and *we'll* nuke you. Fuck off, you demented nonce".

@georgetakei But Hegseth can't commit war crimes all by himself. They only get committed if servicepeople fail in their duty to refuse illegal orders and choose instead to go out and commit the war crimes for him.

@georgetakei Heard this morning that people in the Pentagon are now referring to Hegseth as Dumbnamara, a take on Robert McNamara, the secretary of defense during the Vietnam war. McNamara thought we were winning based on quantitative measurements - things like "body counts" - with the risk of focusing on what is easily measured rather than whether the measurements reflect reality.

@georgetakei The risk of trying to be quantitative is that, when "management" wants certain numbers to go up, there's a tendency on the part of some individuals to try to report higher numbers. So for things like "body counts", to keep the boss happy, people would count body parts as separate bodies, thereby inflating the numbers. It turned into a classic case of "garbage in, garbage out."

@georgetakei If I go down to the store and shoplift a bite to eat, I go to jail. But war crimes... those people are still just out there, doing more war crimes.
Make it make sense! -

trump (Krasnow) ordering the same kind of war crimes that Putin does.
Logical, he phones with his esteemed leader pretty much every day and asks for advice and instructions...

Those
Marines
Can
Quit
Now
Or
Be
Tried
Later,
Then. They are complicit in war crimes until they choose not to be anymore.
@GGMcBG @georgetakei Military personnel, in general, can’t just quit. Officers who’ve met their minimum required service can resign, but enlisted personnel sign up for a particular # of years and can’t leave until that’s up. People who haven’t served seem to think it’s like any other job where you can just walk away, but that’s not true. Even refusing unlawful orders is much more complicated than it seems at first glance, & could send you to Leavenworth.

@georgetakei I'm sure you know that the United States does not recognize the ICC. There's actually such a thing as a "The Hague Invasion Act".
-
I’m a bit tired of hearing Americans say their government and its actions are an “embarrassment”. As long as you are just “embarrassed” you’re not on my side.
@DavidM_yeg @georgetakei there are no words capable of expressing the combination of horror, anger, nausea, and grief this administration brings.

"The bill was introduced by U.S. Senator Jesse Helms (Republican from North Carolina) and U.S. Representative Tom DeLay (Republican from Texas)..." and was enacted August 2, 2002.
I knew about the law but not the people responsible. Zero surprise seeing these guys' names stuck to it..

I'd pay good money to see that, even more if I could stream it 24/7.

I didn't either, but an educated guess might well have seen these names turn up. Especially that creep Jesse Helms.
