      So I could...

Change my rules, take a rail replacement bus Haparanda - Boden, anyway miss my connection in Boden, and re-plan and be on schedule by Hamburg - with some buffer

Wait for the next train, and massively re-plan, and rely on a 11 minute connection Snälltåget to Nightjet in Hamburg... 😭

@jon I didn’t read your rules in details but I’d go for the replacement bus. You booked a train, it’s replaced by a bus then you take the bus. That’s what regular train passengers would do.

@jon I think you need to assume the next train out will be the 07:40 departure tomorrow.

Norrtåg now confirms the overhead wire is torn down between Boden and the junction to Haparandabanan. Trafikverket estimates traffic resumes ”night to Wednesday”.

Shift everything 24 hours might be best if possible? If you’ll stick to the rules of no replacement bus.

@stefanlindbohm @jon @partim Does the rule apply if the sign says "Tchoo Tchoo I'm a Train", refusing the vehicle gender identification ?

(I hope y'all know the picture I'm referring to)

🫂 Jon, I hope you'll manage to find some alternate solution to get to destination.

@jon Hope you find a decent route.

If you end up with a new uMap, let me know. We can add the current plan as a new track on the map while keeping the old.

At about 1100 CEST I will likely know what will happen - if train 7184 leaves Luleå headed to Haparanda, as that turns around here and should be the 13:47 departure (train 7185) to Boden

@jon Oh gosh.. and Sweden doesn't strike me as the country who neglects railway infrastructure, there's so much more to possibly happen but I didn't expect the first hiccup that early into the adventure! This is interesting and thrilling

Right then, this post outlines my options

                  1) Change my rules, take the rail replacement bus, and do major re-planning, and lower risk connections

                  2) Stick to my rules, and rely on tight connections later on in the journey

Input welcome! I lean towards 2)

@jon I think option 2 is correct. Despite the current forecast… the record still needs to be set, even if it’s longer than you expected it to be.

I was expecting you to get bahned somewhere, just not this early.

Looks like the 13:47 Haparanda - Boden is *also* cancelled So I *might* be able to leave Haparanda at 19:38, and then get the night train at 22:18 from Boden

So I *might* be able to leave Haparanda at 19:38, and then get the night train at 22:18 from Boden to Stockholm - have reserved a (cancellable) bed on that in case it does work 🙂

@jon Trafikverket has now updated the estimated time when traffic will resume to 15:30. You need it to be fixed by 18:00 for your next possible train to run at 19:38 from Haparanda. So maybe that will work after all.

Still this only takes you arriving to Stockholm at 12:13 tomorrow by the night train. Then probably best to take the next night train with Snälltåget to arrive 05:05 in Hamburg on Thursday?

                        Ouff.

@stefanlindbohm Yes, I will at least take the Boden - Stockholm. What I do then... I will see.

The problem is Badajoz - Entroncamento, it runs only 2x a day, and in the afternoons!

Can some Finn please explain this road sign seen in Kemijärvi earlier?

Is it "you will only hit elk on the roads in half of Finland"? Is there some elk wall across the middle of the country?

EDIT: OK, it's a reindeer herding area

                                    But I have questions!

The antlers on that sign are wrong.

And given I was a LONG way into the area, why do I need the map?

@jon Just came across a southern version of the sign ("deer seen daily, drive carefully"). Swedish first because I‘m in the Swedish-speaking part of Finland atm.

@jon where's the risk? that they might run a train this evening but not tomorrow morning?

the option i see is 1) go back to the start in Finland and try again. 2) if Boden is cancelled again, change the rules and take the Ersatzverkehr

@bovine3dom Yes. But if I get more then 24h delay in Lagos I have other problems then in Portugal after the record breaking effort! @Sobex @stefanlindbohm
