@MLE_online a lot of times you can initially hook these things up to scamazon or wiz or whatever and then switch them over to homeassistant, ditching the original service tether.

the wifi shenanigans are why all my "smart" bulbs are zigbee based. i have a usb zigbee radio dingus hanging out the side of my server. small price to pay for avoiding the software requirement.
