We truly live in the thickest era of human evolution. You can forgive the ignorance of our ancestors because they had limited access to knowledge, but now the sheer volume of verified learning at our fingertips is unprecedented. Being so ignorant is a wilful act of self-defeating spite.
@Richard_Littler In Elmo's case, it's also mental illness. He is not well. He's always been an arrogant, mouthy asshole, but by now he's also greatly self-deluded. He really believes a lot of his own bullshit, partly because he's increasingly detached from objective reality, and surrounds himself with people he's conditioned to lie to him (as many very rich or powerful people very foolishly do). It's very complicated and hard to follow. But yeah, the last few centuries have mostly been about European subjugation of natives. A familiar story, sadly.
