@QasimRashid I think the people that feel the need to tell strangers what to think, are out of control. I think they are trying to assert a sense of control over their own lives by dominating a narrative for others, which they think they can do, but they can't.
cynicism is cognitively easy
hope takes cognitive effort
cynics are just lazy, and resent people telling them to work harder mentally
they would rather accept abuse (which is all cynicism is: rationalizing one's own oppression) than do the little extra work required to have a heart
and so to someone invested in this approach, anyone with hope is hated more than the oppressor
hope makes them aware of their cognitive sunk cost in their own subjugation
hope is a threat

I feel I have to block negative people. Who come into my mentions with "I agree with you but you are f***ing stupid if you think Trump will face justice."
As James Baldwin reminds us, "I never have been in despair about the world. I’ve been enraged by it. I don’t think I’m in despair. I can’t afford despair. I can’t tell my nephew, my niece. You can’t tell the children there’s no hope."
Do not despair my friends. Be angry. Stay angry. But be not hopeless. We will get through this. We will.
@QasimRashid I’m not convinced that the law will ever bring Trump to justice, but the law didn’t bust the Bastille open either. I have hope for something like that.

@QasimRashid all we have is hope that a miracle happens and they all face justice.

cynicism has no place on the left
It's coming though. Saw a few purity posts today criticizing what they have labeled Blue MAGA and advocating not voting for any Democrats that aren't sufficiently leftist because "They're all the same."
Swear this nonsense is just a rerun of 2024, and plenty of folks are on board.
It's the primaries, so yeah, elect better Dems, but this 'I'm not going to vote stuff' is ridiculous and dangerous.

@benroyce @QasimRashid
Hopefully they eventually get tired of being wrong. The cost shows up when we let uncertainty rise while resisting the urge to instantly snap to moral judgment. Moralizing is cheap, and that is the trap. Moral language turns debate into a self-reinforcing loop that shows people only what they want to see. It swaps symbolic wins for the harder work of revising beliefs, even when people know they are wrong.Recovering from the loop is expensive. It often means breaking rules you thought were absolute, at least for a while. From the inside, where things already feel out of control but manageable, that can look wasteful or even insane.
Until roles and institutions are rebuilt, symbolic conflict is the cheapest way to stabilize. That is why it stays the default.

@mastodonmigration @QasimRashid
not voting, and thus helping fascists win, in the name of scolding someone for not being ideologically pure
this isn't the left doing this, this is someone with ego masturbation needs. they may call themselves left, but they are not. they have self-serving psychological goals, not community-serving ideological goals

it would be ironic of me to argue against your hopeful words
all i will say is: never underestimate the commitment of the stubborn fool to resisting admitting they are wrong

@QasimRashid 被”泼冷水“后,何必屏蔽呢?看看他们如何想,如何变,也是世事观察的一条途径吧。
Why block out the cynical comments? Observing how they think and how they change is also a way to observe the world. -

@benroyce @QasimRashid No argument there, I've been foolish all my life. Only way I can speak of this at all.

a final signoff:
If you want to get through hell, you have to go straight through it and come out the other side. Don’t turn back... But don’t settle in, either. Because if you finally escape and all you’ve done is become perfectly adapted to hell; You haven’t made it out at all. You’ve just carried it with you into the next room.

Some may be Russian trolls, and we certainly can expect these to be active because it has worked so well in the past, but certainly not all. Somehow these folks equate 'not voting' with strength and fighting hard for their principles. That their action (or inaction) actually hurts, and maybe kills, the people they profess to be fighting for is less important to them than this demonstration of 'character.'

Yes, outsized ego is certainly consistent with the syndrome.

I'm sort of inclined to another extreme, that is, vote and do more than vote. Move the party to become the vehicle for people that it should be.

are you unable to vote? are there legal reasons or perhaps you have a physical, social, or economic reason why you cannot vote?
