Because like almost everything #Linux it's easy until it isn't & then you're fucked. In my case, I can't connect to the internet from live USB & so can't start the installation process
spent about 45 minutes trying to solve it & apart from confirming (I think?) that I have the correct driver got nowhere & now I'm tired of it. Guess I'll have to get back to this some other time.

@jwcph is this a Macbook Air 2013 on Intel?
I had a similar issue, then changed distro.
Mint cinnamon and you will do it flawlessly -

Why do you try to connect to a VPN for installation? Just use a lan cable to your router - usually that's it. You can set up your VPN after everything is installed.
Apart from that I did not install on a macbook yet I never had problems with any of the ususal distributions.

@carla I'm not trying to use VPN - it's the only option present under "Network"...
I already thought of using a cabled connection, but unfortunately there's no LAN port on a Macbook Pro.

@carla I guess so - but I don't have one & I'd prefer not to have to buy one, just for a single use... I'll take at look at work tomorrow & see if there's one that I can borrow
