They™️ wanted a technology that could asymmetrically exploit anyone & I actually believe they thought they could control it so that "anyone" didn't include themselves & that the asymmetry would always be on their side.

But hey, I said that they would start to actually worry about the harms of AI once it started happening to themselves - I'd rather have the bubble just pop but that way might work, too...
