How do we get more open source projects away from GitHub, towards e.g. Codeberg or Forgejo? #linux #opensource #git #giveUpGitHub
I guess contributing to Forgejo is one thing, or specifically contributing to projects by helping them migrate? Bring it up in discussions and issues? Donations?

Open source, small, community-driven platform or closed source, hostile tech monopoly? The answer to what platform to (not) use should be simple.

Bringing it up regulary is valuable. Like i'm considering to move for a while and this post reminded me that i should get my shit together and move over.

Well this is just a few quick ideas on the top of my head:
* Easy hosted solutions (Mastohost style)
* Plugin-architecture (right now it's one-size-fits-all, make the software adapt to the needs of the users)
* 1-click installers + easy upgrade
* A nice, polished packaged ready-to-run solution with various kinds of workflow software -

@marcusxms People using the alternative forges is the biggest way in my view cause no one wants to register an account per open source project they want to contribute to. Though this means that you might have a situation like KDE and GNOME where you need to have an account on their instances. So cross your fingers and hope for Forgejo federation as it'll allow one account to contribute to any instance.
