Right then, this post outlines my options
1) Change my rules, take the rail replacement bus, and do major re-planning, and lower risk connections
2) Stick to my rules, and rely on tight connections later on in the journey

@jon Trafikverket has now updated the estimated time when traffic will resume to 15:30. You need it to be fixed by 18:00 for your next possible train to run at 19:38 from Haparanda. So maybe that will work after all.
Still this only takes you arriving to Stockholm at 12:13 tomorrow by the night train. Then probably best to take the next night train with Snälltåget to arrive 05:05 in Hamburg on Thursday?

The problem is Badajoz - Entroncamento, it runs only 2x a day, and in the afternoons!

@jon @stefanlindbohm So the result would be a 24h delay at Entroncamento if you arrive there after the afternoon trains have departed ?

@bovine3dom @Sobex @stefanlindbohm if I knew *for sure* that the Haparanda - Boden would run tomorrow morning, maybe that is not the worst idea. But I don't know that for sure, so it is too risky!

Can some Finn please explain this road sign seen in Kemijärvi earlier?
Is it "you will only hit elk on the roads in half of Finland"? Is there some elk wall across the middle of the country?
EDIT: OK, it's a reindeer herding area
But I have questions!
The antlers on that sign are wrong.
And given I was a LONG way into the area, why do I need the map?
@jon Just came across a southern version of the sign ("deer seen daily, drive carefully"). Swedish first because I‘m in the Swedish-speaking part of Finland atm.

@jon where's the risk? that they might run a train this evening but not tomorrow morning?
the option i see is 1) go back to the start in Finland and try again. 2) if Boden is cancelled again, change the rules and take the Ersatzverkehr

@bovine3dom Yes. But if I get more then 24h delay in Lagos I have other problems then in Portugal after the record breaking effort! @Sobex @stefanlindbohm

So I just called Norrtåg
There is a power line down somewhere. If it is fixed in time, 7185 will be a train. If it is NOT fixed in time it will be a bus...
So how bad is this power line failure?

@jon Stats on the link below. I don’t think this page differentiates train not even scheduled from train cancelled (there have been track works this year that I assume explains many days not running), but despite some frequent delays it looks like at least outright cancellations are uncommon.
Since the cause was an overhead wire torn down by another train, it’s not specifically a systemic issue here.
I don’t dare making a judgement call though.

Looks like the 13:47 Haparanda - Boden is *also* cancelled So I *might* be able to leave Haparanda at 19:38, and then get the night train at 22:18 from Boden

@jon Swedish night trains work really well with Interrail, I‘ll give them that.

@jon @nafmo @sebwilken @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm Well, I guess if Trafikverket says they need the whole line Boden–Murjek for urgent maintenance, Norrtåg can not say "but we only need to use it for a couple of kilometres a couple of times per day pretty please!?" Ordnung muss sein! Safety First!

@jon Oh gosh.. and Sweden doesn't strike me as the country who neglects railway infrastructure, there's so much more to possibly happen but I didn't expect the first hiccup that early into the adventure! This is interesting and thrilling
