Serious Finance People: A green transition would require way too much investment and cause way too much economic dislocation, it's completely unrealistic, we have no choice but to keep drilling for more oil

Also Serious Finance People: We're throwing trillions of dollars at AI nobody wants because we can't tell the difference between a business prospectus and a science fiction novel

@XauriEL Yeah, it doesn't really actually make sense. I used to think that Lewis Carroll was writing silly dialog about words meaning what the speaker wanted them to mean when I read Alice, now I realize he was poking fun at pundits.

Its not quite like that (the latter part).
What many #aiantagonists do not appreciate is, our economic capitalist system is not designed to appropriately calculate prospective future gains.
If (and its a big if, arguably) #ai promises are realised even in 25% (and it certainly tracks this way), what will it mean?
Expert, superhuman intelligence on tap, forever.
That is something you quite literally can not put a price on. Hence the "wasted" billions investing into Ai -

@XauriEL Capitalism needs a miracle. Therefore anything with a measurable return is not worth investing in. Good math never suggests unlimited exponential growth

Billions can be used to hire spend broke graduates to work on the problem, instead of burnt to just let the average user have a chat. No reason an electronic brain must use more calories(or kilowatt-hours) than a biological one.
