Now it's all like oh no! the computer did an oopsie! no one is to blame, nothing can be done! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@lemay @cstross Yeah, enumerating phone numbers when there are no access controls was “exceeding authorised access”. But successive attempts to bypass blocks on scrapers is apparently fair game.

That's one of the core functions of AI and of corporations in general. Spread out the blame and punishment so thin that it becomes meaningless.

@lemay I know someone who hanged himself in his cell after being lured with a job offer in exchange for revealing the security vulnerabilities of the social media website he had scraped.

@lemay I was just looking at why my web server's loadav is high and I found a bunch of sites trying (failing) to fetch /etc/passwd tens of thousands of times each.

@lemay The former CEO is still on cocial media; he spent years promoting environmentally friendly business practices and is now moving into responsible AI. How messed up it all is.

@lemay What's even funnier is that they're describing an AI that completely disregards orders, lies, steals credentials, and knowingly and with intention escapes sandboxes.

@lemay this reminds me of an IT director that said we couldn't do a lan party at a gaming event because it could lead to hacking (literally what??). Teenager gamers can't be trusted

Indeed Aaron Schwartz, didn't do half or quarter what the AI companies are doing exfiltrating people's intellectual property. Man where's the justice in this world.
