The only use for either of them is to round up the employees and toss them in prison. Basically, if you worked for ICE, you should be considered a felon and traitor for the remainder of your life. Same deal with DHS.

@StillIRise1963 I remember when it was formed. I was a brand new baby libertarian (converting from conservatism of my youth). I saw it as a tool that would be abused by authoritarians. Regarding the Patriot Act, I said that it had failed to define "terrorism," and so it would inevitably be used to suppress speech.

That was when you could still hug your departing loved one at the airport gate and do quite a few more things (nearly everything except drinking) without being ritually searched or forced to show your papers.

DHS was nominally formed at Dick Cheney's insistence to put together disparate armed federal law enforcement agencies. It introduced the German concept of "Homeland" into American politics. It also allowed Cheney to drastically cut the number of federal employee union members. Always an obsessive Republican concern.

That's what they did with the Nazi concentration camp guards. They charged them all as accessories to however many murders happened at their camps.

Punishing these atrocities is a matter of will. The same useless people as always will shriek about it, but the people who suffered these crimes and fought for the country will be in no mood for that kind of crap.

Agree, and many of us (on the unamplified left) DID warn people about the entire DHS, but were drowned out by Very Serious people.

I am sure there are quite a number of workers (accounts payable, IT people, clerks, etc.) who thought they were just getting a solid government job and have been (or trying to stay) apolitical.

That's not possible anymore. If you work under Kristi, unless you are -actively- sabotaging the work, you're a damned traitor.
