The person to confront is the friend or family member. I'd like to think they'd then come clean to their partner - so 'rarely'. but if my friends don't have the integrity I assume of them, it would be 'often.'

@evan I would tell the friend or family that I know and give them a chance to tell their partner themselves. I would also tell them that I will not lie to their partner if they were to ask me. In my experience, it's the "not telling" that is the real infidelity and break of trust, more so than the affair. My answer is closest to "Often".
