The Parliamentary session was scheduled for July 30, but they were afraid protestors would be there so they moved it to Monday July 27.

Protestors will be there. The news report says it's likely the ramped up cop weaponry should be expected as well.

It's raining, but protestors are expected out because Parliament met early to try to evade protest. Last night protestors announced they'd be out today so the MPs couldn't escape public account.

This goes into more of the background than anything I've seen yet from English language media.

The protestors are not just calling for the current PM's resignation (Edi Rama, Socialist Party). They're calling for all corrupt oligarchs to be held to account and that include former PM Sali Berisha (Democratic Party) who you'll see in vintage footage in this piece.

One aspect this report overlooks is how people's lands are confiscated by the state. Titles have been in dispute since Communism & land *still* gets confiscated now. The oligarch who erected a fence on the mainland opposite the island doesn't have true title to that public land & that is where the catalyst started this year. When Albanians saw his private goons drag a protestor behind the fence while cops just watched.

A little late, but AP posted footage from July 27, when protestors massed up in the day because Parliament moved forward a session in date, trying to avoid the protestors.

If you look carefully, you can see one of the plainclothes cops they use as agents provocateurs in amongst the uniformed cops. You can tell because while actual protestors are being repelled and/or arrested, this guy in the black polo is embraced by the cops and left his freedom of movement.

The cops were there in force with a water cannon before anything had even started. Every time, it's the cops starting it. The "worst" the protestors have done is throw eggs at corrupt politicians & their luxury cars.
