And I have a couple of minutes, so I wanted to quickly pop in one of my two most important scientific facts:

Not only do a lot of people get the Dunning-Kruger effect wrong, but it was probably a statistical artifact.

This article from McGill University in Canada goes through it far more effectively than I could.

(This revelation released me from the fear that no matter how hard I worked, I might just be shit at things and so bad that I couldn't tell I was shit.)

@DarkSheepArts Agreed, and realise that the DKE has a lot of detractors and poor data. But living here, with a metric tonne of fuckwits walking around with orange lips from kissing ass and a red hat to shield their brain from thinking, I have to say there is clearly something like a sunk cost on decision making that only reinforces a raging protection on that sensitive ego making a really bad choice.

We fuck up, we need to admit it to learn and grow. Doubling down on being wrong 'appears' like the DKE.

@R_3_T_3_C_H @DarkSheepArts cognitive dissonance, although I hear that too is in doubt now.

@NewsHund @DarkSheepArts Definitely a component. But the aggressive entrenchment is something more. The greater the proof to dispell their belief, the greater the defense of their own ignorance.

Cult-like, perhaps it is a cult. I've not dealt with one ever. But, from the bit I know and read about them, this certainly falls into that category as well.

Probably a bit from each column. Then again, all mental problems have nebulous fuzzy edges.
