I can't think of any way that statement can be true. They seem to be saying that the more severe the unproven charges are, the more punitive the pretrial detention can be.
Is there a component of summary judgement operating here, outside of the offense for which they will be tried?
@seachanged I mean, I could understand in theory if the defendants were considered an immediate physical threat, but like, they’ve never hurt or threatened a person. They’re hardly a flight risk if they volunteered to be arrested

I’ve spent these past few days dancing between seething rage at the justice system, profound admiration for my friend their co-defendants, and intense gratitude for the community of activists and volunteers who are fight for justice.
More than anything else though, I just fucking miss my friend.

Israel exists, & is strongly protected bc they don’t want to deal with the racism, antisemitism, & igotry at home. They do not want to arrest the actual antisemites & neo Nazis. So they arrest those who put the Israel ghetto solution at risk.
Israel is smaller than the Russian ghetto Jews escaped. EU & US want all Jews sent there while they get to look like “protectors” of Jews. Colonizer countries need to look at their own bigotry first which perpetuates these harms. -

Security requires you to go through a metal detector, a full pat-down, and your shoes and the soles of your feet are checked. I was verbally sexually harassed going through security on Wednesday and I’ve heard others have had even worse experiences previously.
While my own experience is pretty immaterial given.. everything else, it did feel like a microcosm of the whole situation. Needlessly cruel, dehumanising, and intended to delay and frustrate.
@BenRiceM This thread is so horrifying - I thought Europe was a civilised place where people had a fair trial and decent treatment in prison. Such mindless and cruel brutality
