BREAKING NEWS!

@aral Can you re-phrase that? I'm struggling to interpret it.
@clickhere @ryanjess77 I mean, the Irish were colonised but they’re still very much white.
-
Of course,
voted no against this resolution, but a big group of 52 countries also abstained, mostly from
(and yes, that includes
as well). So much for showing remorse and turning a blind eye against their own history.

@ryanjess77 damn.

BREAKING NEWS! Around 123 countries at the UN have just voted that African enslavement was the biggest crime against humanity. This is an enormous victory for the #reparations movement, led by Ghana.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg06q36052o@ryanjess77 Absolutely disgusting (but not surprising):
"The proposal was adopted with 123 votes in favour and three against - the United States, Israel and Argentina." -
@mlanger @ryanjess77 three against - the United States, Israel and Argentina
UK and EU abstained
Isn't that just like us all?
@outer @ryanjess77 I have to wonder if Argentina voted with us to kiss up to the orange clown.

@ryanjess77
What did you expect from countries (governments) supporting a genocide?@freediverx @ryanjess77
Now that awards are being given out, the current contestants are jealous. -
@outer @ryanjess77 I have to wonder if Argentina voted with us to kiss up to the orange clown.
@mlanger @ryanjess77 President Javier Milei, or “El Loco”, made a $20 Billion deal with the U.S. crazy leader in October.
-
No, you're right, they don't, and yes Spain absolutely was (like most European countries). I was just pointing out the stance of both countries in the Gaza genocide matter. Good has to be acknowledged sometimes for it to be able to contiue and hopefully spread.
@grb090423 @freediverx @ryanjess77 Indeed.

@outer @ryanjess77 Oh, so they have a crazy president, too? Too much of that shit going around.
-
@clickhere @ryanjess77 I mean, the Irish were colonised but they’re still very much white.
@aral Aha, thank you.
Yes, very much so - real 19thC Irish-in-the -US vibes: determined to be the most white, most racist, kicking right on down, so that the WASPs would stop hating on them.
-
@clickhere @ryanjess77 Ireland should pay reparations just like the rest of the European countries involved. Many of the grand universities and Georgian streets in both UK and Ireland were paid for by the profits generated by slave labour in the US and the Caribbean up to the 19th Century. Massive castles were built/purchased in Ireland from the proceeds of this horrible crime. An example is Castledaly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daly_Castle
@Muiris @ryanjess77 Very much so - and the historical record shows plenty of slave-owners had addresses in Ireland.

@outer @ryanjess77 Oh, so they have a crazy president, too? Too much of that shit going around.
@mlanger @ryanjess77 You are absolutely right. I think ours wins the booby prize, but I'm biased.
