@CiaraNi you made me finally install F-Droid, and at so little effort, tnx for this motivational push!)

@martijn_geerdes Ah! It was someone in here that recommended it to me, so we're passing it on nicely by word-of-mouth 🙂 I found it simple too.

@BashStKid @CiaraNi I mean, yeah, but I've been wanting a NAS for the last 5 years because they're so *cute* (and also useful) but it's really hard to justify the expense.

NAS is lovely but still a risk unless you also have an offsite copy. I have family members in different parts of the country but ideally I'd like to be able to keep a copy on the other side of the planet...

There's a fedi service waiting to be created! (how to stop it becoming just another cloud service?)

I'm thinking of the implants and brain hacking in, I believe it was, Neuromancer. It's been a while. My favorites were Count Zero and Pattern Recognition, which if memory serves is about corporate takeover of every aspect of life.

@Su_G Until I saw them listed together, I hadn't realised that I had already made (relatively speaking) quite a few changes. I've been radicalised by the Fediverse 😁 I have more to do too, same as you. It's such a palaver of a process! But we're getting there.

@OneInterestingFact @janeishly @CiaraNi My literal solution to that you’re running your regular machine backups to the NAS, the NAS is running its own state-save infrequent snapshots for your library data, and twice a year you copy the whole thing onto some slow-as-shit old drives (who cares if it takes a few days?).

I’m already almost deMicrosofted, except for my photo archive. I moved to Libre & Tuta mail and have been purging photos as I await the release of Tuta drive. Before I could pick my 2026 goal for #DanmarkSkifter, I did a digital status. I was mildly surprised when I saw my 2025 digital changes together. I looked at the list and thought: ’Tell me you hang out in the Fediverse without telling me you hang out in the Fediverse.’

Why is no one asking these questions:

Why are the wealthiest corporations shoving AI so hard?

Why are billionaires so keen on this dubious product?

Why are billions of investment dollars being wasted on this white elephant?

Why are politicians running away from AI issues?

I've seen these questions arise but no real satisfactory answers. Just $$$$$$

’Denmark Switches.’ A national campaign to collectively move off Big Tech. March 20th is Big Switch Day. I’ve named my goal now. I’m already almost deMicrosofted, except for my photo archive. I moved to Libre & Tuta mail and have been purging photos as I await the release of Tuta drive. Now I’m committing myself to just get the photos off OneDrive and on to my computer, that I own, in my house, by March 20th. Then I’ll delete Microsoft. Then I’ll boast about it on the Fediverse.

@CiaraNi I've tried tuta's free tier and would be curious if anyone could suggest alternatives with better usability. Thanks!

@mapto I've shared it, maybe someone can suggest something better for your needs.

@gambolputte @CiaraNi @Tutanota indeed, I am thinking of making an account for my wife as well to start with, and start sharing between the two of us. Tuta to Tuta. It's slightly expensive to have two, and maybe later even more accounts, but it is such a relief to f. ex. finally feel safe to build a contact list to name just one thing.

@Orewoet @gambolputte @CiaraNi Shared calendars is only possible if both use Tuta - because of the encryption. You can ask support to enable the family option for you so you can add users.
