I strongly suspect that Miller (and many others adjacent) truly believed that the vast majority of white people secretly hate immigrants and brown people and want them all gone but are just too afraid to do anything — and they thus assumed that ICE’s violence have widespread support. The massive degree to which white people in Minneapolis-St. Paul do •not• feel this way caught them completely off guard. They’ve spent an embarrassingly long time clinging to the idea that it’s just a few people opposing them. I hope that seeing 50,000 people marching at -10°F registered as a punch in their shriveled, horrible gut.Oh, I think you are correct. Miller and others absolutely failed to understand the unpopularity of their racists beliefs.
