Roman Mosaic Unearthed — Southwark, London, UK ❤ What Time Reveals (9 Photos): https://streetartutopia.com/2026/03/28/from-buried-mosaics-to-trees-shaping-themselves-around-bricks/

Two archaeologists gently uncover a large Roman mosaic beneath a construction site near The Shard in central London. The vibrant geometric patterns, preserved underground for nearly 2,000 years, reveal a glimpse into an ancient dining room once part of a Roman mansio (guesthouse).

      RE: https://streetartutopia.com/2025/02/06/ancient-mosaic/

💡 Nerd Fact: The same Southwark site later revealed a rare Roman mausoleum too, which means one patch of modern London preserved traces of both elite dining and later burial rituals from Roman times. More old mosaic here: https://streetartutopia.com/2025/12/15/ancient-mosaic-hidden-for-centuries/

@jabgoe2089 Brexit was bad, but honestly the UK and EU are both facing very similar challenges. Hatred abounds. We are not so different, and to be honest I think your comment shows as much.

Manchester was also a Roman settlement. I wonder if there's more like that here.

what happens to these mosaics after they are uncovered, photographed and documented? are they turned back over to the property owners to be destroyed while continuing construction? are they removed somehow?

what will happen to this mosaic in particular?

There are a lot all over Western Europe. Why do people have to destroy them??? Just let things as they are, they will will be covered by grass in months and protected for 1.5 to 2 milleniums. People are probably already busy, why lose time and energy at destroying things? Which benefits???
