    @peluchecero @pluralistic It's intentional.

    I thought those who knew what I meant would laugh, and those who didn't would think it was a typo and understand Proudhon's meaning.

    However, it's also true: Proper tea is grown in huge corporate estates where the labour of poor tea pickers is systematically stolen.

    @simon_brooke That's a favourite joke for me and I'd never considered the hidden truth in it so thanks for pointing it out. 👏

      @simon_brooke @pluralistic the Latin word "privatus" means something like "stolen" or "taken".

      @Nichol @simon_brooke @pluralistic Roman languages still have the verb "privar (Sp.)", meaning to take something away from someone, implying it is something they should have or keep.

            @Nichol @pluralistic Well, of course it does. Because that is what all private property always is.

              In French the word 'privé' means 'private' or 'prevented of having' according to the use...

                As in :
                quicquid enim florui
                felix et beatus,
                nunc a summo corrui
                gloria privatus.

                  "'Left' and 'right' have had the same meaning since the French Revolution. If you want to know if someone is on the left or the right, ask them, 'What is more important: human rights or property rights?' If they say 'Property rights are a human right,' then they are on the right." -- Steven Brust, quoted by @pluralistic

                  Or, as #Proudhon more succinctly put it, 'Proper tea is theft'.

                  @simon_brooke I feel tempted to argue that proper tea is a human right, hahaha. It certainly is something that is no longer available. My normal brand got bought up by equity types and ruined and I've tried about eleventy other brands and they all taste like grass cuttings. 😢 😩

                    @LaChasseuse @simon_brooke We buy our tea now for the compostable bags. Got tired of finding webs of soon-to-be microplastic in the raised bed. So we drink Clipper and have got used to it by now. My OH is a Lancastrian and they all seem to have their tea like gravy, whereas I was raised on PG Tips so it's amazing that it has worked out really. 🤣☕

                      @kbm0 I have just 3 pyramid bags of original PG Tips left. I have been rationing the final box out for use only on Really Bad Days and Special Occasions.
