@fesshole
Hmm
1 on a unicycle
2 on a bike
3 or 4 wheels and 2 or 4 doors on a car
Lorries are dependant on wheel base and class
Planes multiple wheels and doors
A boat has doors, but if it carries cars, bikes, lorries, vans and a unicycle it has a lot of both
A house has doors, but if it has a water wheel, it has a wheel
The London eye is a wheel but has doors
Fairs have Ferris wheels, the ticket booth has a door
The Doors (great band)
and Huxley gave us the Doors of Perception.
- so Doors

last night i was in a conversation with someone right here on mastodon and as we discussed the topic they posted a screenshot of them asking chatgpt a question on the topic
right here on mastodon
we're so fucking doomed
people's brains are turning to mush

@lunarloony @michael @fesshole
So... this depends on what we define as wheel, as many things inside a normal household contain wheels for mechanical purposes. Doors, otoh, are not used for half as many things. So if we go by that logic, I would say that there are many more wheels on earth than doors.

Cars have 4(ish) doors and 4(ish) wheels so they don't matter. Bikes have 2(ish) wheels and no doors. Houses have ~10 doors and no wheels. Nothing else has wheels or doors. There are likely not 5 times as many bikes as houses in the world. Ergo, doors.
@michael @fesshole truck doors (3) outnumbered by wheels (6, 10, 18). Schools & Commercial buildings are peppered with doors.
Shopping carts, train cars, wheeled appliances, wheeled furniture, and many tools & toys have far more wheels than doors, and are in homes by vast numbers. Once I start considering all of those wheels, I can count my home’s doors in moments but find myself unable to enumerate all the wheels tucked away in odd use cases in that house.
How narrowly do we define wheels? Flywheels? Toothed wheels (gears)? Pulleys or wheels holding belts?
Cars and other motors have flywheels, gear works are full of wheels, wheels persist in clocks and watches. A big retail Hot Wheels display at Christmas countermands the doors of a small city. Pumps, turbines, water meters and anemometers rely on wheels.

@benroyce Whenever someone posts a Gemini screenshot as proof, I always have to ask, "You don't realize how much of a self-own that is, do you?" Right over their heads.
@HisVirusness @benroyce Show them this

@lunarloony @michael @fesshole Similarly, there are multiple interior mechanism, including the engine that contain multiple wheels.

@solearther @Cowabbie @fesshole and the spare wheel in the boot?

@benroyce @HisVirusness Follow-up question: Do his current training routines involve his anus?
-
@fesshole does ATPase count as wheel?
-
@fesshole Then I take it as a sign of health that I didn't think of asking LLM about it until I arrived at your mention of it

@benroyce @HisVirusness Follow-up question: Do his current training routines involve his anus?
The world lives in the shadow of Mark Zuckerberg's anus

@fesshole Wheels. Many things have doors but no obvious wheels (houses, f'rex) but many houses also contain wheels — in the form of toys, collectables, model cars/planes/trains that have functioning wheels but non-functioning doors. Also, depending on if an entrance needs a solid covering to be a door, then that also discounts parts of the world where fabric or beads are used as doors, along with any open doorways.
Only a moron would ask chatGPT when it's far more interesting to think.

Everyone is forgetting to count the little doors on advent calendars.

@NormanDunbar @Anke @michael @fesshole I assumed they were talking about exercise wheels

@fesshole obviously there are more windows than doors.
