@vcallinan Was it difficult to drop FB? Most FB friends don't follow you to Mastodon in my experience
@ottomate FB wouldn't cancel my account , despite following the process several times. Took about a year. I do miss some of the FB offerings like Marketplace, but not enough to go back. Most of my FB followers were people I knew, so I see them at meetings. Was freeing making the break.

As a Canadian I notice more Europeans here than the old Brand X place but I get to choose who I see, not an algorithm so that takes some work. Following #hashtags helps to find people to follow.

Filtering is good too. I filter out a bunch of hashtags like uspol, uspolitics, trump, potus, scotus, etc etc. It's an option in your preferences. -
@vcallinan Had buckets of tomatoes one lucky year and another year we got about this much each week which was nothing to sneeze at either. Lucky to have lived places with amazing gardens kept by other people with passion fruit and all kinds of fruits and vegetables but now a modest garden plot with apricot and figs in large pots, black currants, peppermint (yeah hard to manage), strawberries, rhubarb, peppers, basil, and whatever other veggies we plant. I don't post a lot of garden stuff but hope you do find your gardening people. And no shortage of cats
Feel free to ask me (and most people) questions. Masto is a bit counterintuitive and just plain manual in places. One thing I suggest is looking at the local feed of mastodon.social, and on the local feed of any other instances that seem relevant, to find people to follow. All the best!@scrottie Woo hoo! The USians here are fairly well behaved, love cats, garden often, and if they're anything like me: detest Mr. Trump. We elected the world's worst neighbor as President. Sorry (I switched from Kentucky owned MAGA bourbon to Tequila) as my own Elbows Up stance, although I'm a really average ice skater.

Everybody gave lots of good answers. I also notice that time zone plays a part. When I check early in the morning Central US time, timeline is nearly all European.

When I started here I followed as many people as I could. It means I have a lively feed from all kinds of people. It's easy to unfollow someone if they prove to be someone you are not interested in. Don't be afraid to mute or block people that become problematic.
You can also follow hashtags of your favorite topics too. Have fun!
