    @drewph Technically, Librewolf did the asking, not the web page.

    It doesn't matter that the data is wrong, only that it is unique and identifiable. They can still track you across websites and build a profile. I set Librewolf to its strictest mode, reloaded the page, and it welcomed me back to my second visit.

    @RockyC
    So presumably the answer is to randomise things frequently - like reporting a fake resolution, a different platform, frequent change of VPN location, etc.

        @RockyC Most of the comments are about the tool not working correctly or portrayed wrong. Yes it might be the case if you are into privacy and stuff but once think from a perspective of an average internet user with little to no knowledge about privacy. If you show it to them they will surely get interested and look into privacy.
        Kudos to the developers 🤝 will surely incorporate this into our next awareness session.
        Thanks for sharing

            @RockyC aha this gives me a clue why some stuff is thinking I'm on a VPN and demanding I turn it off:

            > Your browser speaks English, your IP is in DE, and your clock is in a third place. That's not a traveller. That's a VPN.

            [narrator: that's not a VPN]

              many years ago I read that since so few people have a privacy extension in their browser, that if yo have one it make tracking you much much easier

              LOL

                    @RockyC this site needs javascript to work. But i am sure some of this information does not.

                    "You wiped sessionStorage, window.name, but localStorage, IndexedDB, Cache Storage still held the tag."(edit: later after waiting for the addon to actually clear it, it was just Cache Storage)
                    Cookie Autodelete failed me? Turned out deleting cache storage was disabled, but enabling it is not fixing it so far.. It's also annoying because probably it might be done without javascript also? (like add a unique url to be cached and see if it is there?)

                    Also my bubblewrap sandbox could hide fonts i guess?

                    Bit surprised Librewolf has cross-site referrers on by default. I turned on letterboxing, it did get some info wrong based on that. (maybe for sites i like, i want to give referrers in order to promote them lol)

                      @RockyC Thanks for answering the question that's been in my head for years.

                      I wonder every stupid time I change duckduck to no AI and no other crap if it really matters. I also asked on AI something if selecting the button for no AI really stops it.

                      NOW ... I keep reading there's nothing I can do about it (I'm no geek) but is there something we can do about it?

                        @GoblinQuester It doesn't matter if the details are wrong. What matters is that they are consistent. That allows them to build a profile and follow you regardless.

                        @RockyC @GoblinQuester

                        Very educational. Going through TOR, changing my view screen size and user agent, didn't stop it recognising re-visits and correctly counting the number of visits. How? As the site states:

                        "On your first visit I stored a random tag, not in a cookie, but across localStorage, IndexedDB, the Cache API and window.name at once. I never learned your name; I just recognised the tag, and counted."

                        Clearing my browser history finally made me into a "new" visitor.

                              e.g.  it got my o/s right, but tz very wrong. Screen resolution was wrong too - I didn't take notes, but there were a few other dodgy things it 'knew' about me.  Overall, quite pleased! 🙂

                                Exactly, if it is consistent. I randomize things like  user agent, available fonts and cloak other things too. Plus, every new, unrelated tab is its own container. Other things... The bastards may still get me somehow, but not with the tools on this site.

                                      @RockyC @Flying_SquirrelOG @mherbert With JS blocked in ublock origin, I just got a blank page. Which is misleading since I'm pretty sure websites can still get quite a bit of information without JS.

                                      I'm surprised it didn't try to read my location (which changes day to day and is almost always wrong, but a lot of sites ask for it anyway).

                                        @benc @RockyC Yeah, I got that only for Swedish. Funny how some of the people online are *immigrants*. Sigh.

                                          This is neat. A handy demo of how you can be identified and tracked across the Internet without a single cookie ever being set in your browser.

                                          @RockyC this personality test is okay with me. I'll tell my friends.
